It took three years of hard work back in 2001 along with extensive renovations to transform this turn-of-the-century mansion into one of Canada’s most respected and well-known steakhouses.

It’s waterfront location on Wellington Crescent, one of Winnipeg’s most prestigious streets, is the perfect backdrop for a dining experience like none other.

Once through the stately front doors, guests are treated to the spectacle of a grand staircase, luxurious draperies, sparkling chandeliers and beautifully adorned private rooms. The dark wood paneling throughout the building only adds to the mansion’s aesthetic warmth, charm and grace. Experience the splendour of 529 Wellington, a legendary restaurant, three years in the making. It is located on the river, in an elegantly restored 1912 mansion on Winnipeg’s most prestigious street, Wellington Crescent. Sommelier – Christopher Sprague

As a professionally trained wine taster and certified Sommelier, Christopher Sprague brings an unparalleled passion and a tremendous palate to 529 Wellington Steakhouse.  Christopher’s extensive knowledge of wines has been the guiding force of our award winning wine list for over a decade.  With a warm, down to earth approach, his excitement in finding the perfect pairing for every palate and price range is contagious.  He has a passion for adventure and has travelled the globe forging many valuable connections with wine makers all over the world.

In addition to overseeing the wine programs for all of WOW! Hospitality concepts Christopher teaches wine knowledge to industry professionals and wine enthusiasts, and is committed to being involved with charitable events within the wine community.


General Manager – Jim Armstrong

Jim Armstrong is the Vice President of WOW! Hospitality and Managing Partner of 529 Wellington Steakhouse.  Jim is a fastidious leader with an unwavering desire to rise above guest’s expectations. Before becoming 529 Wellington Steakhouse Managing Partner, Jim was VP of Operations, where he was responsible for the performance of all WOW! Hospitality operations, directly supervised the executive chefs, general managers and trained the various restaurants’ management teams to provide guests with the WOW! Experience.In 2006, Jim chose to make 529 Wellington Steakhouse his main operation focus and has been at the forefront of providing guests with 529’s renowned cuisine and hospitality.


Operations Manager – Karl Jones

Karl Jones is a charismatic leader driven by a passion for the exceptional guest experience.  He brings a vast knowledge of all aspects of restaurant service to his management approach.  With over 15 years in the industry and with his maturity and wisdom in bartending & fine dining service garnered from bistros to wine bars across Canada he is a valuable asset to the 529 Wellington Steakhouse team as well as WOW! Hospitality.


Executive Chef - Fraser MacLeod

Just like the mansion itself, chef du cusine Fraser MacLeod’s approach to cooking is also traditional with a splash of something new.

“When it comes to cooking, less can be more. Take for example the Canadian Prime beef we serve. When you start with something that exceptional, all you need are some classic seasonings to make it exquisite. When we do add a twist, such as the Portobello mushroom cap and Cabernet jus, it’s to compliment and heighten the flavour in the beef and not overwhelm it.”

Fraser brings more than 15 years of culinary experience to 529 and was one of the chefs who helped opened the restaurant back in 2001.

“It’s not every day you’re asked to be a part of something so grand and spectacular. I knew this place would make history and being a part of it, especially from day one, has made me incredibly proud. It’s given me the chance to hone my skills even further so that each entrée that goes from our kitchen to your table is has been prepared to perfection.”
